Building Confidence
At GREENHILLS MEADOWS ®, we believe that early socialization is the key to raising a well-rounded, confident, and happy Border Collie. That’s why our puppies are not just raised—they are nurtured and fully immersed in farm life and family living from the moment they are born.
Interaction with Humans
From the moment they open their eyes, our puppies are surrounded by positive human interactions. We make sure they are handled daily by different people, including adults, children, and visitors, so they learn to be comfortable with all kinds of human interactions. This early exposure helps prevent shyness, fear, or anxiety around strangers.
We also encourage gentle handling, including touching their paws, ears, and tails, which makes future grooming and vet visits much easier.
Our puppies don’t just live on a farm—they live inside our home as part of our family. They are raised indoors with us, alongside our children, friends, and visitors, creating a deep bond with people from an early age. This daily human interaction teaches them to be affectionate, social, and responsive, ensuring they grow into dogs that love companionship. Our children play with them, teach them gentle handling, and expose them to everyday household noises, such as vacuum cleaners, TVs, and ringing phones, so they become accustomed to typical home life.
Interaction with Animals
Our puppies grow up on our spacious farm, where they experience nature, open spaces, and daily interactions with animals of all kinds. They are introduced to the sounds and movements of horses, chickens, other dogs, and farm animals, ensuring they develop calm, balanced temperaments. This exposure helps them become fearless, adaptable, and well-mannered, making them better prepared for life in various home environments.
As a breeder dedicated to raising well-adjusted Border Collies, we introduce our puppies to various animals early on. Whether it’s other dogs, farm animals, or even household pets, our puppies grow up learning proper social cues and respect for other creatures. This exposure helps prevent unwanted aggressive or fearful behavior when encountering other animals in their new homes.
Our puppies engage in supervised playtime with littermates and adult dogs, allowing them to learn important social skills such as bite inhibition, appropriate play, and pack behavior. By the time they leave for their new homes, they have a strong foundation in how to interact with both dogs and other pets.
Environmental Exposure
We introduce our puppies to different settings, sounds, and experiences to ensure they grow up confident and well-adjusted. From exploring different areas of the house and farm to experiencing car rides, outdoor adventures, and new textures (such as grass, sand, and wooden floors), we carefully expose them to new things in a positive and controlled way. This reduces the chances of anxiety or fearfulness as they mature, helping them become brave, adaptable companions in any situation.
At GREENHILLS MEADOWS ®, our goal is to raise Border Collies that are not just intelligent, but also socially well-rounded, confident, and loving. Through hands-on care, farm exposure, and family interaction, we ensure that every puppy leaves our home ready to thrive in theirs.
Laying the Foundation for a Well-Behaved Companion
At GREENHILLS MEADOWS ®, we don’t just raise Border Collie puppies—we prepare them for success in their new homes by establishing essential obedience training from an early age. Our puppies begin learning foundational skills that promote good behavior, confidence, and responsiveness, making it easier for their new families to continue training seamlessly.
Name Recognition – Building Connection & Attention
One of the first things we teach our puppies is to recognize and respond to their name. Through repetition and positive reinforcement, they quickly learn to associate their name with attention, affection, and rewards. This simple yet essential skill lays the groundwork for strong communication and recall training as they grow.
Sit & Stay – Encouraging Calmness & Focus
We introduce the “sit” and “stay” commands early to promote patience, self-control, and listening skills. These foundational commands help puppies learn to settle down in new situations, making them calmer and more manageable at home, during vet visits, or in social settings.
Crate Training – Creating a Safe & Comfortable Space
Crate training is an essential part of a puppy’s development, and we introduce it gradually and positively. Our puppies learn that their crate is a safe, cozy space for rest and relaxation, not a place of confinement. This helps with house training, nighttime routine, and reducing anxiety, making the transition to their new home smoother.
Leash Walking – Teaching Good Manners on Walks
We expose our puppies to basic leash training to encourage confidence and cooperation during walks. By introducing them to a collar and leash early, they learn to walk politely without excessive pulling and to follow their handler’s guidance. This makes outdoor adventures enjoyable and stress-free for both the puppy and their future owner.
At GREENHILLS MEADOWS ®, we believe that a well-trained puppy is a happy puppy. By providing early obedience training, we set our puppies up for success, confidence, and a smooth transition into their forever homes.

Teaching Proper Puppy Play
we understand that puppies naturally explore the world with their mouths. However, teaching bite inhibition early is crucial for raising a well-mannered, gentle companion. Through structured play and positive reinforcement, we help our puppies develop proper mouth control and respectful play habits.
- Mouth Control: Puppies learn to understand the difference between gentle play and inappropriate biting. If a puppy bites too hard, we redirect their behavior to teach them that soft mouths are the right way to play.
- Gentle Play: We encourage puppies to engage with toys instead of hands or clothing, reinforcing the habit of chewing on appropriate items rather than nipping at people. This prevents unwanted behaviors and ensures a smooth transition into their new home.
Social Behavior – Raising Polite, Well-Mannered Puppies
A well-socialized puppy is a confident, well-behaved one. At GREENHILLS MEADOWS ®, we introduce our puppies to daily handling, grooming, and polite interaction habits to ensure they grow into well-mannered companions.
- Handling & Grooming: From an early age, our puppies are gently introduced to brushing, bathing, ear cleaning, and nail trimming. This makes future grooming sessions stress-free and helps them become comfortable with being handled by their owners and vets.
- Good Manners: Puppies are taught not to jump on people, to remain calm during greetings, and to play politely with both humans and other animals. By reinforcing these behaviors early, we ensure our puppies are respectful, social, and adaptable in any environment.
At GREENHILLS MEADOWS ®, our goal is to raise balanced, well-behaved Border Collies that are not only intelligent but also gentle, polite, and a joy to have in any home.
